Le Roi et La Reine

Samuel Murray and Frédérique Lambert are Racquetball Canada’s King and Queen, respectively, as they were both double winners on the weekend at the 2022 Canadian National Championships in Brossard, Québec. Murray won both singles and doubles for a 4th consecutive time (it was his 6th Men’s Doubles title overall), while Lambert won her 4th Women’s Singles title (2nd consecutive) and 3rd Women’s Doubles title.

In the singles finals, Murray beat Coby Iwaasa, 15-9, 15-8, 15-8, and Lambert defeated Michèle Morissette, 15-8, 15-9, 15-5. In doubles, Murray played with his brother Tommy for a third year, and they beat Iwaasa and Kurtis Cullen in the final, 12-15, 15-14, 15-6, 15-9. Lambert teamed up with Morissette in Women’s Doubles, and they were undefeated through a five team round robin competition.

As with the National Team Selection Event in Calgary earlier this season, a rally point scoring system was used with matches being the best of five games: four games to 15, win by 1, and a tie-breaker to 11 win by 2.

These results will be combined with the results from Calgary to select Team Canada for the 2022 International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Championships in San Luis Potosí, Mexico August August 19-27. Murray, Lambert, Iwaasa and Morissette should all be invited to be part of the team.
