IRT - 2013 Stockton Pro-Am Preliminary Results

A couple of upsets in the second round of qualifying at the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) Stockton Pro-Am in Stockton, California opened the door for Sebastian Franco and David Horn to get into the Round of 16, although they did have to win their last qualifying matches to do so.

Jose Daniel Ugalde upset 14th seed Juan Herrera, 11-3, 2-11, 11-5, 11-4, but then lost to Franco, 5-11, 11-9, 11-1, 12-10, which puts Franco up against 3rd seed Alvaro Beltan in the Round of 16.

Also, Fernando Rios beat Brad Schopierary, 11-8, 1-11, 11-0, 11-3, but was then beaten by Horn, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8. Horn plays 2nd seed Rocky Carson in the 16s.

Long match of the day goes to Jose Serrano and Ryan Meyer, who went the distance, as Serrano came back from 0-2 down to win in a tie-breaker, 4-11, 9-11, 11-4, 12-10, 11-6. However, Marco Rojas denied Serrano a spot in the 16s with a 11-7, 11-7, 11-2 victory.

Finally, veteran and former #1 Cliff Swain won his first match in qualifying over Armando Bermudez, 11-0, 11-1, 11-7, but lost to Jose Diaz, 11-6, 11-9, 11-3, in the final round of qualifying.

The IRT Network will be web-cast the Round of 16 beginning at 10 AM PDT Friday morning with the quarter finals to follow from 4 PM PDT.
