The 2012-13 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) season will end the way it began, as the #1 and #2 players are going to face off in another final. This time it's in Fullerton, California for the USA Racquetball (USAR) Ektelon Nationals. Kane Waselenchuk has clinched the season end #1 spot ahead of Rocky Carson, so that won't be on the line in Sunday's final.
However, both players have a lot of pride in their racquetball games and they won't be holding anything back when they meet on Sunday.
Both Waselenchuk and Carson to the final with straight game wins in the semi-finals. Waselenchuk beat Jose Rojas, 11-2, 11-3, 11-6, and Carson defeated Ben Croft, 11-7, 11-5, 12-10.
After his match, Waselenchuk said capturing the year end #1 position for the eighth time was his "most satisfying title," as he's had several set backs during the season due to injuries.
Waselenchuk spoke of how after the Mile High Pro-Am, when he re-injured his right knee in the final against Carson, he felt especially challenged. But he's come back strong since then, as he looked great at the most recent IRT events in Portland, Ore. and Stockton, Calif.
If Waselenchuk has the form that he had in those two events, then he should win on Sunday. However, Carson will not go down without a fight, and if there is any flaw in Waselenchuk's game, Carson will be sure to exploit it.
The IRT Network will web-cast the final from Fullerton at 2 PM PDT Sunday.
