USAR Ektelon Nationals - US Team Qualifying - Early results

Two upsets in the first round of the Women's US Team Qualifying division draw at the USA Racquetball (USAR) Ektelon Nationals in Fullerton, California, although one was by default as Elise Wilson was a walkover winner against Linda Scales. Wilson will play 2nd seed Cheryl Gudinas in the quarter-finals.

Michelle Key caused the other upset as she defeated T. J. Baumbaugh, 15-7, 15-7, to advance to the quarters, where she'll play top seed, and defending champion, Rhonda Rajsich.

The quarter final matches are slated for Friday afternoon with the semi-finals on Saturday and the final on Sunday morning.

Men's Division

No surprises through the Round of 16 on the men's side of US Team Qualifying at the USA Racquetball (USAR) Ektelon Nationals in Fullerton, California, although Mike O'Brien did have a win against Jason Mannino, former #1 player on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) and now the IRT President, but our understanding is that Mannino hurt his hand in training, which is likely the cause of the default.

The top seeds both won comfortably. Marco Rojas, the #1 seed, defeated Jose Hernandez 15-8, 15-1, and David Horn, the #2 seed, beat Robert Collins, 15-2, 15-3.

The quarter final matches are slated for Friday afternoon with the semi-finals on Saturday and the final on Sunday morning.
