2014 IRT Cactus Salon New York City Pro-Am - Preview

The Cactus Salon New York City Pro-Am is the second of back to back tournaments on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), and there's a large draw with three rounds of qualifying on Thursday before the Round of 16 begins on Friday.

The quarter finals could see a battle of brothers, as Jose and Marco Rojas are seeded 4th and 5th, respectively, and would meet in the quarters if they win their Round of 16 matches.

New York state native Nick Montalbano, who reached the 16 of this event last year and was a semi-finalist in last season's New Jersey Open, is in the draw, and he would meet 2nd seed Rocky Carson in the 16s if he wins his two qualifying matches.

There are several Canadians in the draw, led by Vincent Gagnon, who will likely play Charlie Pratt in the 3rd round of qualifying. That should be a good match and also set up a good battle in the 16s, as the winner will play Jansen Allen.

Also, there are two good juniors in the draw. Mexican Andree Parrilla is the U16 World Junior Champion, and left hander Adam Manilla is the US Junior National Champion in U18.

To reach the 16s, Parrilla will have to defeat Tony Dornelle or Manolo Sandoval and then likely Alejandro Herrera, which would put him up against IRT #1 Kane Waselenchuk in the 16s. Manilla will have to overcome Jonathan Clay and Mauricio Zelada to claim the Q5 spot and a match will Marco Rojas in the Round of 16.

The IRT Network will carry the action live over the web beginning Thursday night from 8 PM EST and then all day Friday beginning at 10 AM EST.
