2015 IRF World Junior Championships - Girl's Results

After the first elimination rounds of the Girl's action at the 27th International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Junior Racquetball Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, there are some curious standings.

Of the eight players left in Girl's U18 only Costa Rica can double medal, as they are the only country left with two players who do not play a team-mate in the quarters. That is, six countries are represented in the quarterfinals: one Canadian, one Bolivian, one American, one Dominican, two Costa Ricans and two Mexicans, but the Mexicans are playing each other in the quarterfinals, so only one of them will advance to the quarters.

The Girl's U16 division might be the toughest in Santo Domingo this year, as three of the players have had significant results on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT): Monserrat Mejia (Mexico), Jordan Cooperrider (USA) and Ana Gabriela Martinez (Guatemala).

Mexico and the USA are the only two countries with two players still alive in U16, as Meija is joined by Jennifer Gomez (Mexico), and Manilla will join Cooperrider in the quarters on Thursday.

Finally, three countries have two players still going in Girl's U14: Bolivia with Angelica Barrios and Romina Rivero, Mexico with Ana Laura Flores and Delia Aguiar, as well as the host nation: the Dominican Republic with Alejandra Jimenez and Rodaliza Perdomo. Joining those six are an Irish girl (Mary Ellen Phelan) and an American (Briana Jacquet).

The quarter finals are on Thursday, semi-finals on Friday and finals on Saturday. For a link to live streaming of some of the matches from Santo Domingo beginning Thursday go to the IRF website.
