Weekend round-up - Wins for Swain, Franco, Martinez & Jackson

Cliff Swain won the 2015 Minot Open, a Tier 4 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) event, on Sunday. Swain defeated Tanner Gross in the final, 11-4, 11-4, 11-0. Swain advanced to the final by defeating Kurtis Cullen, 11-6, 11-5, 11-0, in one semi-final, while Gross beat Lee Connell in the other, 11-6, 11-5, 11-5. In four matches en route to the title, Swain handed out a donut to each opponent.

It was Gross’s second IRT Tier 4 final in as many weekends, as he won the Marigold Resources Quad City Open in Eldridge, Iowa, where he defeated Carlos Reyes in the final.

In other weekend action, Sebastian Franco won the Men’s Open division at the Galaxy Custom Printing tournament in Lilburn, Georgia, by defeating Mario Mercado in the final, 15-3, 15-9. In the semis, Franco beat Felipe Camacho, 15-7, 14-15, 11-3, and Mercado defeated Alejandro Herrera, 15-8, 15-11.

Also in Lilburn, Sharon Jackson won Women’s Open by defeating Jordan Cooperrider, 15-4, 15-9, in the finals, and Jackson and Jansen Allen won the Mixed Open title by defeating Franco and Samantha Simmons, 15-9, 15-13, in the final.

In San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Gabriela Martinez won Women’s Open at the 2015 Paola Longoria Experience. She defeated Regina Franco in the final, 15-8, 15-9. In the semi-finals, Martinez beat Susana Acosta 11-15, 15-14, 11-8, and Franco defeated Ana Laura Flores, 15-10, 15-14.

This weekend’s action is in Davison, Michigan, where the IRT Red Swain Shootout will take place. Also, the International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Junior Championships begins Sunday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
