The Red Swain Shootout in Davison, Michigan is the third of five Tier 1 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) events on consecutive weekends, and it begins today. Kane Waselenchuk, the #1 IRT player, will be back in action in Davison after missing last week’s Atlanta Pro-Am. Joining Waselenchuk in the draw will be last weekend’s winner Alvaro Beltran, and the rest of the top seven IRT players.
Former top 10 player, Tony Carson is also playing, which will be only his third tournament since last year’s Red Swain event. Carson has to play a qualifying match today to get into Friday’s Round of 16, but if he wins today, he’ll face 5th seed Jose Rojas, which could be a good match.
Also in the 16s, Robert Collins could play Felipe Camacho, if Camacho wins his qualifying match, so it's likely that one of them will make it to the quarterfinals. It’s been a breakthrough year for Collins and Camacho, who have both made the quarters this year for the first time, and Camacho even went one better than that, as he was a semi-finalist in Kansas City.
Cliff Swain is also in the draw, and if he wins today in qualifying against Troy Warigon, he’ll face Beltran in the 16s on Friday.
Two other qualifying matches with potential are Mario Mercado against Fernando Rios, and Mauricio Zelada versus Samuel Murray, although both Rios and Murray need to win a match to make those matches happen.
Play will be streamed live from Friday on via the IRT Network from 10 AM EST.
