The first World Racquetball Tour (WRT) final of 2017 will not feature either the WRT #1 or #2 player, as both were defeated in the semi-finals of the Longhorn Open in Austin, Texas. Rodrigo Montoya beat WRT #1 Alejandro Cardona, 15-8, 15-12, and Javier Mar ousted David Horn, 15-13, 15-6, so Sunday’s final will be between the two young Mexicans: Montoya and Mar.
They could meet in the doubles final as well, as both are in the semi-finals of doubles, which will be played Sunday morning. Montoya and Andree Parrilla are the top seeds in doubles, and narrowly defeated George Bustos and Ross Smith Jr., 15-13, 15-14, in the quarterfinals, while Mar and Edson Martinez beat 3rd seeds Sebastian Fernandez & Miguel Rodriguez Jr., 11-15, 15-4, 11-5.
The singles final will be shown live via the WRT website Sunday at 12:15 PM with the doubles final at 1:30 PM.
