WRT kicks off 2017 season at Longhorn Open

The World Racquetball Tour (WRT) began its 2017 season with the Longhorn Open in Austin, Texas on Friday. There were no upsets for the top 5 seeds, including WRT #1 Alejandro Cardona, who reached the quarterfinals by defeating Alan Natera, 15-11, 15-2, in the Round of 16. Second seed David Horn was almost forced to a tie-breaker by Brent Walters, but won in two games, 15-7, 15-14.

There were two upsets Friday. Javier Mar, seeded 22nd, defeated 6th seed Christian Longoria, 15-10, 6-15, 11-10, in one, and 23rd seed Edson Martinez beat 7th seed Francisco Troncoso, 15-2, 15-2.

Those wins will put Mar against 3rd seed Andree Parrilla in the quarterfinals, as Parrilla beat Chase Robison, 15-14, 15-8, and Martinez will face Horn in the quarters.

The quarterfinals will be shown live via the WRT website from 1:20 PM Saturday afternoon with the semi-finals Saturday night 7:40 PM and 8:30 PM with the final Sunday at 12:15 PM.
