2014 Pro Kennex IRT Tournament of Champions Round of 16

No upsets so far on Friday at the 2014 Pro Kennex International Racquetball Tour (IRT) Tournament of Champions in Portland, Oregon, where the top seeds won comfortably in the Round of 16.

IRT #1 Kane Waselenchuk defeated Mauro Rojas, 11-1, 11-2, 11-0, and IRT #2 beat Wayne Antone IV, 11-5, 11-2, 11-3. Both Rojas and Antone are junior players, and may have been a bit overwhelmed by being on court with the best players in the world.

IRT #3 Alvaro Beltran also played a junior, but Andree Parrilla was stiffer competition. In face, Parrilla won the first game 11-8, only to have Beltran blank him in game two, 11-0. Beltran led throughout game three, winning 11-7, but in game four Parrilla had the early lead at 6-2. However, the veteran Beltran dug in and came back to win that game and take the match in four games, 8-11, 11-0, 11-7, 11-8.

Two matches that we thought would be close were only close in the first games, as they were straight game wins by the higher seeds. Seventh seed Chris Crowther beat Cliff Swain, 11-9, 11-2, 11-6, and Jansen Allen defeated Charlie Pratt, 12-10, 11-3, 11-8.

The IRT Network is broadcasting the Round of 16 currently and will have the quarterfinals beginning at 4 PM PDT. Note: the semi-finals will be 11 AM and noon on Saturday with the final on Saturday night at 7:00 PM PDT.
