Paola Longoria, the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT), won the 2014 Ektelon Pro Nationals in Herndon, Virginia by defeating Maria Jose Vargas, 11-2, 3-11, 8-11, 11-3, 11-3. Longoria was undefeated for the third consecutive women's pro season, and hasn't lost a match since May 2011.
After splitting the first two games, Vargas came out firing in game three, and went out to a 7-1 lead. However, Longoria came back and tied it at 7-7.
It looked like Longoria was going to take control of the match at that point, but Vargas held it together and took a two point lead at 9-7, and then got a game point at 10-8. She skipped that opportunity, but made no mistake on the second game point, winning game three 11-8.
With her back against the wall, Longoria responded by stepping up her game and though Vargas battled hard, Longoria won games four and five with relative ease, 11-3, 11-3.
It's the third consecutive final that Longoria has had to come from behind to win, and the second final in a row that she's faced a must win situation, as Rhonda Rajsich was up 2-0 on Longoria in San Antonio last month.
In doubles, Vargas and Rajsich teamed up and defeated Susana Acosta and Samantha Salas Solis in the doubles final, 15-8, 13-15, 11-7.
