Doubles Champions at the Canadian Racquetball Championships

There were some new and some old champions at the 2014 Canadian National Racquetball Championships in Brossard, Que. The Nationals, as they are known, begin with the doubles competition, which ended Tuesday. Wednesday the singles competitions begin.

Samuel Murray and Vincent Gagnon won Men's Open doubles by defeating Pedro Castro and Tim Landeryou, 15-12, 15-2. It's Murray's first Canadian title, but the 4th for Gagnon, whose previous doubles titles were all with François Viens.

Castro was playing in the doubles final for the second time in his career, and it was the second time that he lost to Gagnon in the final, as Gagnon and Viens defeated Castro and Eric Desrochers two years ago, when the Nationals was last in Brossard.

On the women's side, Josée Grand'Maître and Jennifer Saunders won their 10th doubles title together, as they defeated the young team of Brigitte Richard and Christine Richardson, 15-2, 11-15, 11-8.

Nationals is the last opportunity for players to earn points that will get them spots on the Canadian National Team that will compete at the IRF World Championships next month in Burlington, Ont.
