LPRT Pro Nationals - Round of 16

Some close matches in the early action at the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) Pro Nationals in Herndon, Virginia, but only one small upset so far. That came in the 8/9 match, as 9th seed Da'monique Davis defeated 8th seed Sofia Rascon, 11-8, 11-2, 0-11, 11-5, to advance to the quarterfinals, where she'll play the winner of LPRT #1 Paola Longoria and 16th seed Amie Brewer.

Both LPRT #3 Rhonda Rajsich and #6 Cristina Amaya needed five games to escape the Round of 16 Friday. Rajsich was down two games to one against Masiel Rivera, but came back to win 6-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-1, 11-1. Amaya dropped the first game against Susana Acosta, who always seems to play long matches, but then won the next two. Acosta narrowly won the fourth, but not the fifth, as Amaya won it by a final score of 0-11, 11-2, 11-2, 10-12, 11-6.

Finally, 7th seed Michelle Key defeated 10th seed Cheryl Gudinas, 5-11, 11-4, 12-10, 7-11, 12-10, and that will likely be enough for Key to claim the second US Team spot awarded to the 2nd highest finisher on the LPRT season rankings; Rajsich will take the 1st spot.

That means Key will likely represent the USA at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto in July, and Gudinas will miss the Pan Am Games for the first time since 1995, when racquetball was first included on the Pan Am Games program.

The quarterfinals will be at 11 AM and noon Saturday with the semi-finals at 5 PM and 6 PM EDT. Matches can be viewed via the LPRT Livestream channel.
