The top four seeds made it through to the semi-finals of the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) Pro Kennex Tournament of Champions in Portland, Oregon Friday. Most of them won three straight games, although not those games were easy.
For example, Rocky Carson, the IRT's #1 player, went extra points with Tony Carson (no relation) in game two of their match. And he trailed Tony 7-1 in game three before Rocky came back and won it with a final scoreline of 11-6, 14-12, 11-8.
Also, 4th seed Daniel De La Rosa beat 12th seed Coby Iwaasa, 6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6. They were close early in game one, but Iwaasa caught fire and didn't look back as he won it 11-6. It was a great display of talent by the young Canadian, but it only won him one game.
In game two, De La Rosa changed tactics and lob served through the game - a few other serves were put in for variety, but in general he hit straight lobs to the left side - Iwaasa's backhand.
The helped De La Rosa win 14 straight points to go from 5-4 in game two to 8-0 in game three. Iwaasa got a few points before De La Rosa closed out game three to go up 2-1.
Game four was close, as they went back and forth until being tied at 6-6. Then De La Rosa, who was the veteran in the match despite being only 21, scored five unanswered points to take the game and match.
The IRT Network will broadcast the semi-finals Saturday at 11 AM and noon with the final Saturday night at 7:00 PM PDT.
