The preliminary round ended Monday at the XXV Pan American Championships in Temuco, Chile, and there were few surprises except in men's singles where Luis Perez of the Dominican Republic, who won Group C despite being seeded third in the group and 17th overall. Perez finished off the group stage with a 15-14, 15-6 win over Francisco Troncoso of Chile on Monday.
Also of note, Fernando Rios of Ecuador won Group F ahead of Francisco Gomez of Colombia, who Rios beat 15-10, 15-10 on Monday. Gomez had been seeded ahead of Rios.
Nothing that dramatic happened in the other divisions, as the higher seeded players generally won their matches.
