Venezuela didn't have a man in the Round of 16 in singles, but their men's doubles team reached the semi-finals Thursday at the XXV Pan American Championships in Temuco, Chile, as Cesar Castillo and Roberto Santander upset the 2nd seeded Costa Rican team of Ivan Villegas and Bruno Casalvolone, 15-12, 15-11.
The Venezuelans will face Bolivians Ricardo Monroy and Roland Keller in the semi-finals on Friday, as Monroy and Keller defeated Luis Perez and Junior Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic, 15-3, 15-4.
The other semi-final will be the #1 seeded Mexicans Alejandro Cardona and Edson Martinez versus the Argentine team of Daniel Maggi & Fernando Kurzbard. In the quarter finals, the Mexicans defeated Canadians Nathaniel Husulak and Tim Landeryou, 15-12, 15-9, while the Argentinians beat Sebastian Roessler and Santiago Canedo of Chile, 15-5, 15-11.
The elimination rounds continue Thursday in Temuco with the 16s and quarter finals. The Pan American Racquetball Confederation (PARC) is streaming matches live via their website.
