Bolivia took two of the three gold medals in girl's singles at the 24th International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Junior Racquetball Championships in Canoga Park, California. Maria Jose Vargas won U18 and Natalia Mendez won U16. Mendez had a chance to win U14, but lost the final to Mexican Diana Aguilar.
Vargas's finish was one better than last year, when she was the U18 silver medalist, as she beat her team-mate Adriana Riveros on Saturday, 15-10, 15-5.
Vargas is only the 2nd Bolivian to win Girl's U18 after Yazmine Sabja, who won the title in 2009.
Mendez was the 6th seed in Girl's U16 and she beat the #1 seed, Ximena Gonzalez of Mexico, 15-11, 15-12. Mendez could have been a double gold medalist, but she lost the U14 final, despite being the top seed. But 2nd seed Diana Aguilar of Mexico beat Mendez, 14-15, 15-13, 11-3, to take the U14 gold.
