IRT Red Swain Shootout - Qualifying Results

There were a couple of upsets during the qualifying rounds of the Red Swain Shootout in Davison, Michigan on Thursday, but Mitch Williams - former top 6 player on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) was not involved in them, as he lost to Andy Hawthorne in the final round of qualifying, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8. Hawthorne will play Ben Croft in the Round of 16 on Friday.

One of the upsets was in one of the matches we thought would be a good one, which was Jansen Allen versus Juan Herrera. It went Allen's way but due to an injury default rather than an on court win. Allen will play 3rd seed Alvaro Beltran in the 16s.

Marco Rojas caused another of the upsets as he defeated another young American, Brad Schopieray, 11-3, 12-10, 11-5. Rojas will face a familiar face in the 16s, as he'll be playing his brother Jose, who's the 4th seed. They also played last month in the US Open, when Jose won in four games.

Cliff Swain, who's father is the namesake of the event, lost in a tie-breaker to Canadian Eric Desrochers, 7-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-5, 11-4, in the first round of qualifying, but unfortunately for Desrochers he wasn't able to follow up that victory with another, as Anthony Herrera beat him in the final qualifying round, 12-10, 11-7, 11-6, and will play Tony Carson in the Round of 16.
