After two pedestrian matches to start the quarter finals of the Red Swain Shootout on Friday in Davison, Michigan - the third event of the 2012-13 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) season - in which IRT #1 Kane Waselenchuk and #2 Rocky Carson both won easily there were two barn burners that took five games each to be decided.
Shane Vanderson, who we suggested in our tournament preview could be able to pull the upset of Jose Rojas, did in fact defeat Rojas, coming back from two games to one down to win 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4.
The other five gamer also had a come back from two games to one down, but in that case it was the favourite that was able to win it, as Alvaro Beltran defeated Tony Carson, 1-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-9, 11-3.
In Saturday's semi-finals, Vanderson will play Waselenchuk, who defeated Ben Croft, 11-5, 11-2, 11-3, and Beltran will face another Carson, but Rocky this time, who's no relation to Tony, as Rocky beat Chris Crowther, 11-3, 11-1, 11-1.
The semi-finals are set to go at 11 AM EDT and 1:30 PM EDT with the final to follow Saturday night at 7 PM EDT. All three matches can be viewed live over the internet via the IRT Network.
