LPRT 2014 Great Balls of Fire Round of 16

There were two upsets in the Round of 16 at the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) Great Balls of Fire Pro-Am in Miami, Florida, but they were not big upsets as they happened in the 8/9 and 7/10 matches.

Tenth seed Veronica Sotomayor defeated 7th seed Susana Acosta, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-8, and 9th seed Cheryl Gudinas beat 8th seed Da'monique Davis, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9.

Jordan Cooperrider, the big upset winner in the Round of 32, lost in the 16s to fellow American Aubrey Kirch, 11-3, 11-5, 11-7. Kirch will face 3rd seed Maria Jose Vargas in the quarterfinals, as Vargas beat Jessica Parrilla, 6-11, 11-4, 11-3, 11-5, in the 16s.

Both top seeds won their matches, but neither did so in straight games. Number one seed Paola Longoria defeated Sheryl Lotts, 11-0, 11-0, 9-11, 11-5, and 2nd seed Rhonda Rajsich beat Michelle Key, 11-2, 11-8, 2-11, 11-8.

In the quarters, Longoria will play Gudinas and Rajsich is up against Sotomayor.
