This weekend’s New Jersey Open in Warren, New Jersey is a Tier 1 Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) event with 25 players in the draw with 18 of the top 20 LPRT players, so it’s one of the most competitive fields possible. LPRT #1 Paola Longoria will be trying to win her seventh event of the season, while LPRT #2 Maria Jose Vargas and #3 Rhonda Rajsich will each be trying win their second.
The highlight of the first round action could be a Muñoz-Muñoz battle, as Chilean Carla Muñoz will play Ecuadoran Maria Paz Muñoz (no relation). Looking ahead to a potential Round of 16 match, Veronica Sotomayor and Michelle Key are lined up to faceoff, if they win their first matches, and that could be a challenging match for both of them.
Frédérique Lambert is the 4th seed, as Samantha Salas is absent. Lambert could face Alexandra Herrera in the Round of 16, which would be a battle of two players who’ve been the Girl’s U18 World Junior Champion. Lambert won the title in 2011 and Herrera is the current title holder.
The action starts Friday morning. Matches can be viewed via the LPRT Network.
