Weekend round-up - Wins for Stark, Franco and Herrera

Jeff Stark won the consolation side of the World Racquetball Tour (WRT) draw at the Pleasanton Open in Pleasanton, California. Stark defeated Fahd Abidi in the final, 12-15, 15-8, 11-0.

Both semi-finals were also tie-breakers, as Stark needed three games to defeat Miguel Rodriguez Jr, 10-15, 15-9, 11-8, and Abidi also dropped the first game against Kevin Alejandro Rios Hernandez before coming back to win, 8-15, 15-5, 11-6.

Across the country in Florida, the current World Champion Men's Doubles team of Sebastian Franco and Alejandro Herrera faced off against each other in the Men’s Open final at the Florida Pro-Am with Franco coming out as the victor, 15-9, 11-15, 11-2.

In the semi-finals, Herrera defeated Noslen Jimenez Garcia, 15-9, 15-10, and Franco beat Andres Ramirez, 15-14, 15-7.

Franco and Herrera teamed up for Men’s Open Doubles, and as one would expect of the World Champions, they won, defeating Mike Harmon and Wesley Miller in the final, 15-6, 15-12.

Franco and Herrera beat Noslen Jimenez Garcia and Tyson Peco, 15-4, 15-10, in one semi-final, while Harmon and Miller defeated Jeremy Best and David Stincer, 15-7, 15-12, in the other.

This weekend’s big event is the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) New Jersey Open in Warren, N.J. beginning March 6. Twenty four players are registered, so it should be a great competition.
