Paola Longoria won another showdown with Rhonda Rajsich Sunday at the Women's Professional Racquetball Organization's (WPRO's) Terrapin Shootout in Laurel, Maryland, but it was another battle between the WPRO's #1 and #2 players, as Longoria won it in five games, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7, 4-11, 11-6.
Of their seven meetings this season, Longoria has now won four of them and Rajsich three, and perhaps more importantly Longoria has won the last four times they've played. The victory helps solidify Longoria's position at the top of the WPRO rankings, and with only three events to go in the season - two Tier 1s - it looks like Longoria will finish at the top of the rankings for the third consecutive season.
In the semi-finals earlier on Sunday, Longoria defeated Susana Acosta, 11-3, 11-0, 11-1, and Rajsich beat Samantha Salas Solis, 11-9, 11-5, 1-11, 11-8.
The next WPRO event is the Miller Lite Open in York, Penn. next weekend, April 1-3. That's a satellite event, as was this weekend's Terrapin Shootout. The next Tier 1 WPRO event is the In Shape WPRO Championships presented by Ektelon in Stockton, Calif. April 29-May 1.
